Portrait of a Young Man

Image
Oftentimes I have enjoyed painting and sketching when travelling, or living abroad.  Inspiration comes any time, and allows for variety without undo haste, as the work can be finished in the studio later on. Mysterious, almost indecipherable letters carved into the wall.  Ruins surrounded by a windswept landscape.  Here I capture that moment when the subject becomes aware he is being observed, even while in the midst of his reverie—a transition from a private train of thoughts to a certain self-consciousness. „Portrait of a Young Man“ acrylic on canvas, by EMH

Eye on the Sky

In this work I painted strong contrasts to indicate the dual nature of the sitter‘s personality. „With Eyes on the Sky“ oil on canvas by EMH

The Thinker

Image
„The Thinker“— Needs to think things through for himself, to grasp impressions and sensations so he may understand...is undeterred... My son let me reason things out with him, once he grasped the point he would act  on it in his own way.  Highly intelligent, always receptive to logic, he never gave me cause to impose an idea—it was ever a joy to raise him!
