A professor’s son
Another portrait of mine, this one is of the son of a linguistics professor whose family I learned to know quite well. The boy seemed a bit conscious of being requested to sit for a portrait his parents had commissioned, and I had the feeling he observed me carefully, and wanted to understand what I was looking for. He certainly knew what to do with his hands, thrusting them into his pockets, almost with an air of defiance. I gave him an encouraging glance, and he relaxed somewhat. His intelligence shows, and his slightly sideways look at the viewer indicates a probing mind.
